Well.........
Almost done with another class!! I'm going to be very--- happy when I get the Pecha Kucha out of the way. I just looked at the rubric and realized, I need to go back and re-work it a little. I'm sick of looking at it to be honest!! I have an issue with talking (I am a teacher haha) so this 20 seconds per slide is torture. I feel like I can't get my point across in that short of time. But........... I'm really excited to make a Christmas animoto! Unfortunately I STILL have not gotten confirmation on my account :( so the animoto will only be 30 seconds.
The rubric assignment peeked my attention the most this week. I just got home from a 2 day convention about differentiated assessment. Rick Wormeli was the presenter and he did a phenomenal job! We talked about rubrics for a little while, but he has a great deal of information in his books that I have. I'm going to take the information from his books, as well as our class and see what I come up with. I am familiar with rubrics, but I don't use them as much as I should.

Christy,
ReplyDeleteI took a quick peak at your Pecha Kucha and thought it looked good. I'm jealous that you are done (or very close to being done). I just have to add my voice and I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will go smoothly. And I am in the same boat as you with rubrics; I am familiar with them but do not use them much. I know they would be VERY beneficial to students because then they know exactly what they have to do if they want to get a good grade. I know that I benefit from them when I have an assignment because then I can checkoff what is done and what I have left to do.
Christy,
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your comments about the Pecha Kucha. When I created my first presentation it was almost 11 minutes and 30 seconds long. Getting a good story across with only 20 seconds per slide is horrible. After several revisions and many online trials, I finally got it down to the 6 minute 40 second requirement. Thank God it's finished!
I would contact Animoto directly. I was waiting for a while also and finally gave up and sent them an e-mail about it. The help wasn't very clear so we exchanged about 6 e-mails before everything worked, but I finally received the Ed. account. Good luck!
Christy,
ReplyDeleteI am still reworking my Pecha Kucha too. You took the words out of my mouth when you said it is difficult to complete a thought in 20 seconds. I know that talk too much in my class and don't give my students enough "empty space" to reflect and make their own connections. Perhaps I should give my students some credit for staying attentive during my lessons. Another means to gain points in a Rubric.
