CED530 Week 4

Last week, I really enjoyed doing the 30 second Animoto. (I'm waiting for my educator account still) Even though I only made a 30 second one, I thought it was really cool!!! Out of all the things we have done in this program so far, I loved this site. I had so many ideas going through my head. We have a science/social studies fair coming up in March, so I'm going to use the Animoto for the presentations. I'm also going to use it for my personal photos as well.
Thoughts for this week......
I think Prezi looks cool. I have an account I just haven't had time to explore yet. I'm just excited to get to the actual presentations. Sorry Louis, but I'm not a fan of papers and citing sources in APA. That's why I didn't want to be an English teacher. hahaha No offense if you read this
Overall, these past two weeks have gotten me excited about presentations. But......I'm still unsure how the Pecha Kucha is going to go. That should be interesting. I'm sure I can do it, but I really like to talk! My students wish I wouldn't talk as much as I do.
I really liked the book Presentaion Zen and I will definitely refer back to it in the future.

  1. I know teachers who like animoto, but I think a site like Glogster is more towards what students are used to. It's got a facebook/myspace feel to it. Plus, if you assign a theme, it works great. A co-worker is having her kids to "book talks" using glogster. She got the educator account and I'll be checking in on her progress this week, I hope.

As for a Pecha Kucha.... I don't see myself using it in class. While I could easily talk for that amount of time... students would run out of things to say. I think VoiceThread is more student friendly.

However, Prezi on the other hand has potential. I was starting mine when my browser crashed... so I'm not sure if I'll have to restart it or not. I think you'll like it.

  2. Oh I understand the dislike for APA - don't worry, yet we need to let people know that we are building on the shoulders of others and acknowledge their ideas and thoughts.

I'm glad you are enjoying Animoto - it's a fun place to create. Now to "play" with Prezi - let me know how oyu like it.

  3. Christy - Animoto was fun, wasn't it? I think that is probably my favorite digital storytelling tool so far. In second would be Prezi, then Voicethread. However, I'm using Voicethread for my Pecha Kucha, so maybe it will move up a notch on my favs list!

I totally agree about APA style. What's wrong with MLA? All of my college courses previous to this program always asked for MLA...it was my understanding that it was more widely used. Anyway, the nice thing about doing citations nowadays is that we have citationmaker and other online citations that just let you plop in your information and it spits out the proper citation format. Did I ever give that website address to you and Bill?

  4. Christy,

I agree with you about Animoto. 30 seconds is just a teaser to what I want to do with it. I also like all the resources that it offers, the music and videos and pix. The APA is a big pain in our A _ _. But I can see why it has to be done. I know if someone ever uses my work, I will want to be cited and get the deserved credit.
